There’s something very WA about enjoying a crispy cold beer alongside a serving of beer-battered fish and chips straight from the fryer on a warm summer’s evening. The crew from Old Bridge Cellars, Clancy’s Fish Pub and Innate Brewing had this very scene in mind when creating their brand-new collaboration beer.
Launching to market via pre-sale today, Crispy Buoy Pils is the ultimate fish and chip accompaniment. The three independent power-houses came together over a mutual love for ‘a crispy boy’, which translates to a crisp, clean and refreshing lager-style beer.
After quick deliberations over the style of beer, Pilsner was unanimously agreed upon and brewing began. The result is a perfectly crushable summer pils that has been brewed with floor malted pilsner, wheat and Vienna malts and hopped exclusively with NZ-favourite Motueka, providing freshly crushed citrus aromas and hints of tropical fruit.
Clancy’s Fish Pub has even shared their top-secret beer batter recipe for the occasion, with the precious information scrawled on the side of the can for purchasers to give it a crack at home.
All pre-sale orders for a cube (16 cans) of the new-release beer placed before the official launch date will receive a complimentary Clancy’s Fish Pub fish and chip voucher* which can be used at any of the Clancy’s venues across Perth and the South-West.
Old Bridge Cellars Proprietor, Toby Beeson said this collaboration is one of their most exciting yet.
“We love to collaborate with like-minded, family-owned businesses, so this was an easy one. Crispy Buoy Pils just gets you pumped about summer. Whether you’re sitting at Clancy’s ordering fish and chips, or trying the secret batter beer recipe yourself, it’s the perfect pairing,” said Mr. Beeson.
Clancy’s Fish Pub Clam-bassador, Tom Fisher said they expect this beer to fly over the silly season.
“Craft beer and fish and chips has always been the Clancy’s way, so a collaboration beer brewed specifically to go with F&C’s is a very Fish Pub thing,” said Mr. Fisher.
Innate Brewing is a family-owned microbrewery located in Spearwood, with a strong range of core beers and regular limited releases. Head Brewer, Matt Crockett said the plan for this beer was for it to be highly sessionable.
“The long, cool fermentation has emphasised the delicate malt and hop characters in Crispy Buoy Pils. It’s perfectly balanced and ideal for drinking on a hot summer’s day,” said Mr. Crockett.
Crispy Buoy Pils will officially land in store for pre-sale collection and a tasting event at both Old Bridge Cellars North Fremantle and Como on Friday 1st December, between 4pm - 7pm. The beer will be available for cheeky tasters all weekend long at both stores. Clancy’s will also join in the festivities, pouring straight from the keg at the Fremantle, Applecross, City Beach and Dunsborough pubs from the first day of summer onwards.
