TWO new wines from one of our favourites...MARQ

Mar 20, 2024Meg David

We're getting in a couple weeks early for our April Winery of the Month tasting...simply because we couldn't wait any longer to launch our latest collaboration wine! It's just THAT good.

This is an extra special collab launch as we got to work closely with long-term friend of the family, Mark Warren from Marq Wines. Mark is the extremely talented winemaker who brings you your Old Bridge favourites...Cassiodorus, Forty Rows and some of our house wines.

Mark gave us a call last year in a flurry of excitement to let us know he'd discovered the "most spectacular" parcel of Margaret River Shiraz and would we be interested in teaming up on something. Given we've been pestering him for a collab for years, our answer was of course YES. In his words...this is his "first foray into the 'dark arts' producing what is referred to as a 'lofi' style or 'natural' wine'." And damn did he do a good job!

At this week's tastings (Thursday Como, Friday North Freo), we'll be launching the Marq X OBC Lofi Shiraz! Join us to be the very first to get your hands on this brand new wine, as well as pick up some amazing deals on the Marq Wines range.

"Lo-fi" refers to a minimalist or low-intervention approach to producing wine. It's essentially about letting the wine express itself naturally, with minimal interference from the winemaker. It prioritises expression of terroir which often results in wines that are more vibrant, expressive, and reflective of their origins. In other words...normal winemaking trickery is simply not required, or can even be a hindrance!

The Marq X OBC Lofi Shiraz was crafted from premium-quality grapes, meticulously nurtured through Mark's dedicated viticultural practices. It underwent natural fermentation and was aged in concrete eggs to preserve its pure flavours, free from any additional influences.

We are beyond thrilled with the end result. Jay's tasting notes included some beautiful words including bright jubey plums, red liquorice and white pepper. The perfect Autumn red. Come join us later this week at the tasting to see for yourself.
In addition to launching the brand new Lofi Shiraz, we are also extremely pleased to share that the new vintage of the Marq Gamay has officially hit the shelves. This is a sell-out wine each and every year. A precious commodity...one of those 'if you know, you know' wines.

Gamay is the dominant grape planted in the district of Beaujolais in Burgundy. It is often associated with a style called Beaujolais Nouveau which is a very light and easy drinking wine. Marq's 2023 vintage for the Gamay is medium bodied with good fruit intensity and demonstrates the classic lifted strawberry flavours, complemented by cherry, mushroom and rhubarb characters with hints of clove. The tannins are soft, fine and supple and the flavour persistent and a long. If you're interested, secure as soon as possible.
To celebrate the launch of Marq Wines X Old Bridge Cellars Lofi Shiraz, we are giving away the ultimate Marq Wines experience which includes a seated wine tasting for two at the Cellar Door where you'll be guided through some beautiful wines with the Winemaker himself, including the brand new release, and enjoy a cheese and charcuterie platter to finish.

As well as the experience, the winner will receive a three-pack of Marq X OBC wines including the Lofi Shiraz, Cassiodorus and Forty Rows Chardonnay...all wines made by the talented Mark Warren specifically for Old Bridge Cellars.
